Christmas day is almost upon us and everyone is looking forward to opening their presents.
Santa visited our school on 15th December. He was accompanied by members of the Garda Band who provided music on the day. Santa brought a gift for everyone and reminded us all to be in bed early on Christmas Eve. Thanks to Margaret Hession (J.L.O.), the Garda Band, Royal Sun Alliance, Dundrum and the Parents’ Association for making this such a great event.
Santa’s visit was followed by two days of amazing concerts. Junior and Senior Infants on 17th and First and Second classes on 18th. It is wonderful to see how talented the children are. Well done to everyone who worked so hard preparing the children for the shows :
Ms. Bourke, Mr. Higgins (Junior Infants)
Ms. Menton, Ms. Watson, Ms. O’Driscoll (Senior Infants)
Ms. Chaney, Ms. Martin (First class)
Mr. Gogarty, Ms. Delaney (Second Class)
A very special thanks to Bn. Mhic Dhomhnaill who helped prepare all groups for the concerts, Margaret Byrne (secretary), Maurice Guiden (caretaker), Carol McCarthy, Jacinta Casey and Aimee O’Connor who work quietly behind the scenes, making it all possible.
Friday 19th was Assembly day. 68 children had full attendance this term. Congratulations to the children and their parents for making this great effort.
We had many special treats this term :
 On 14th October the West Midlands Theatre Company performed “The Firebird”, a traditional folk tale from Russia.
 Mags Curley, the Librarian from Northside Library, told Scary Stories for Hallowe’en on 20th October.
 Seosamh Ó Maolalaí entertained the children with stories and songs on 1st December.
 Ian Patterson brought his wonderful birds of prey to the school on 18th October
Thanks to Ms. Finn and Ms. Martin for organising these events.
We held a Fancy Dress Dancathon on 24th October. Everybody wore fabulous costumes on the day. Thanks to everyone who sponsored the children for this event. All Funds raised go towards funding events and resources for your children.
Everybody took part in our Story Book Project during the month of November. Over 550 books were read during this month !! Well done parents and children. That is some achievement.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many people who work tirelessly on behalf of the school : The Special Education teachers – Ms. O’Byrne, Bn. Mhic Dhomhnaill, Ms. Chandler, Ms. Sheehan and Ms Madden; Fr. Jack and Br. Iggy and all members of the Board of Management for their dedication and commitment to the school; Ann Stewart, our Attendance Monitor; Phyllis, Ena, Pat and Ger, our school cleaners; Tara Keogh and all who prepare breakfasts and lunches for the children each day. A very special thanks to all the parents who have helped out in many ways since September.
Finally, on behalf of the Board of Management and Staff of St. Francis’ J.N.S. I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a happy and peaceful New Year.
Nollaig Shona agus Athbliain faoi mhaise daoibh.
